Glowing cheeks, warm woollen mittens, silhouette trees and log fires. These are just some of the joys of taking a walking break in the English countryside in winter.
Yes winter! It is one of my favourite times of year to be out exploring. Winter brings its own peace and etheral beauty. The countryside seems so much more still and tranquil than usual. The smell of woodsmoke in the air is a really evocative scent as you walk. And it’s great watching it whirl out of the chimney tops. Thatched cottages or stone built houses are fascinating this time of year with their colourful festive decorations hanging in the windows or on wooden doors.
You might spot a fox out hunting or enjoy the sight of holly berries. Early dusks create magical effects. And a glass of something by the fire is the reward both at lunchtime and on your return. It’s a great way to enjoy peaceful time out.
To celebrate all that’s great about winter Foot Trails has launched a new choice of specially created Winter Warmer Warmer Walks. Choose from the Wiltshire Winter Warmer or Somerset Winter Warmer based in an English country inn.
Both feature walks created for the season, indoor lunchtime stops at country pubs on route, an inclement weather pack (just incase!) and log fires at your country inns.
Book a 2 night or 3 night break on any dates from 01 November to 28 February 2013 at special offer inclusive prices starting from £189 per person, inclusive of accommodation, walking, breakfast, three course dinners and wine.
