Myths & Legends
Where stories, history and landscape collide
Myths & Legends is an inn to inn walking trail best enjoyed over 7 nights.
For an utterly rural escape then this is the trip for you. Thoroughly off the beaten path, and very much like stepping back in time, there’s a delightful slow country pace to life on this trail.
A little Somerset mystique (or it is the cider!) brings the tales of long ago to the fore, and the rural humbleness of Dorset feels like yesteryear.
Inn to Inn walking & hiking in Somerset and Dorset
Your Foot Trail starts in the ‘Land of the Summer People’, the area where through millennia people came for the rich summer grazing. Once a tidal inland sea, the Somerset Levels are shrouded in mystique, legend & myth, entwined with history. The view from Glastonbury is stunning.
Your trail then leads to Arthur country, is this Camelot? Stand on the legendary hilltop with views in all directions as you enjoy reading about Arthur & his knights.
Onward to journey south to the beautiful rolling chalk downs of Dorset. Quaint old thatched cottages, tales of writer Thomas Hardy, and an opportunity to take in the mythical chalk figure at Cerne.
If the sense of the coast being just over the next hill intrigues you then this trail connects with our Landscapes & Seascapes trail.
