Complete Cotswolds, Chipping Campden to Bath

Crowd free and Authentic Cotswolds

We are delighted to offer a credible, varied and authentic alternative to The Cotswolds Way.  An option that is far removed from mass produced tourism, coaches and package trips. One less well known, definitely less busy and more varied in scenery.

Using our lifetime of local knowledge we have created the Complete Cotswolds trail, a route up to 14 nights and 135 miles in length, using local paths, villages and market towns from the north to the south of the Cotswolds. We have mapped every mile. You can choose to walk every day, or perhaps have rest days or sight seeing days built in.

Complete Cotswolds – Chipping Campden to Bath is an inn to inn (or village to village) style English walking adventure, custom made to you.

Experience comes first with a Foot Trail, but this trail is especially close to our hearts. Alison Howell has strong family connections with the area on her mother’s side and cousins who farm the land today. David Howell grew up in the Cotswolds near Cheltenham so we’d love you to join us for a glimpse into The Cotswolds life we know and love.

At its most complete, this trip can be up to 14 nights duration and 135 miles, taking you all the way from Chipping Campden to Bath. (North to South) You’ll spend on average 2 nights at each personally chosen country inn on route, giving you a more relaxing travel experience without the need to have to pack and then repack every day. You’ll have a day to explore the area and the following day to walk to your next new location.

Our award winning Foot Trails are totally custom made and fully flexible walking trips. Not off the shelf packages. This means you choose your start date, finishing date, decide where and when you would like any rest days or sightseeing days and have a choice of walking distances. You can also have the flexibility to shorten or lengthen many of your walking days to suit you.

Custom made & crafted English walking

Your walking holiday/vacation will be customised to suit your requirements and the English season. You can start your inn to inn tour on any day / date (subject to availability) and stay from 10 nights to 14 nights. We recommend booking early as our trips are popular and availability at our small country inns, limited.

Trail highlights include:

  • Chipping Campden with its magnificent architecture and 100 year old connection to the Arts and Crafts movement including book binding and jewelry making
  • Enjoy the tapestry of the Cotwolds landscapes; tranquil, breathtaking and centuries old.
  • Admire Stow on the Wold, the highest market town in the Cotswolds with its independent shops and cafes
  • Walk with the Romans and explore one of England’s best loved villas. This 2,000 year old legacy is a wonderful example of the ingenuity, creativity and presence bestowed to us by the Romans during the peak of the Empire.
  • Meander picture perfect villages where the pace is slow and you will be greeted with a warm local smile.
  • Bath. It would be a travesty to visit the West Country. At every corner you are treated to spectacular architecture and it really is a special place to happen upon having enjoyed the treats of the surrounding countryside.

About the accommodations

One of the reasons guests choose Foot Trails is for our choice of authentic and quality accommodation.

Largely independently and privately owned, we enjoy a close and strong working partnership with all of our country inns. Small, personal and friendly with excellent hospitality, each country inn sits in an English village with comfortable bedrooms and delicious local food and produce including real ales and a selection of wines to enjoy with dinner after your walk.

Every inn and bedroom is uniquely designed and all our bedrooms have en-suite private bathrooms with modern facilities.

On the Complete Cotswolds trip all of the accommodation is in personally chosen country pubs and country inns, many award winning, from 16th century former cider houses, to country pubs on village greens with a duck pond, to a riverside country inn with garden. Other stays include a grade II listed, Camra (campaign for real ale) winning pub and a combined pub, restaurant and hotel set in the former heart of The Cotswolds wool trade.
