Slow travel: Discovering the slow beauty of Somerset

By its very nature, walking forces us to slow down and connect with our surroundings; to experience life at two miles an hour. And there’s nowhere that quite embodies this slower pace of life quite like rural Somerset. In this laid back, unhurried corner of England, time seems to slow. It’s a place where you can lose the modern and wander in the sunshine with just birdsong and hum of nature for accompaniment.

Here you can follow quiet lanes of hedgerows, cross meadows and pass through cider farms that have been producing their wares for centuries. To walk through ancient orchards and stop off at a farm shop or inn to taste the local cider is a wonderful circle of experience. We always recommend that our guests pop and pick up some produce. After all, there’s no simpler or greater pleasure than pausing in the shade of an apple tree on a warm summer’s day for an impromptu picnic.

For us, this is slow travel at its finest. And it’s all here, waiting to be discovered this summer.
