It’s that time of year again. When a simple walk in the woods is turned into something magical by the delicate indigo blooms of bluebells.

The warm April weather we’ve been enjoying has brought these wonderful flowers out in woodlands and hedgerows across the South West of England.
A couple of weekends ago, I set out for a wood in one of the walks in our Wessex Ancient Kingdom trip. It’s a beautiful patch of woodland nestled in the rural countryside of Wiltshire. I was on the hunt for bluebells, and I wasn’t disappointed. On a still and sunny Sunday morning, I spent a good hour or so wandering through the trees among the blue blooms. The only sounds were my boots crunching along the path, the light breeze in the trees and the echoing birdsong, which is reaching its spring crescendo at the moment as we head into late April/early May.

I rested a while on the path, enjoying the peace and quiet and the sounds of nature all around. It was relaxing, refreshing, inspiring and invigorating, all at the same time. Everything that a walk in the woods should be 🌳
After a while, I tore myself away from the trees and flowers and made my way through the quiet country lanes back to my start point. Luckily, the return journey was just as idyllic, and I was treated to yet more spring blossoms on the trees I passed, the branches almost groaning under the profusion of bright white flowers. All in all, it was the perfect spring morning. I’m already looking forward to the next few weeks of glorious spring wildflowers.
