Last weekend, I (Alastair) took advantage of the glorious sunshine and headed south to the beautiful Dorset coast. With not a cloud in the sky, it was the perfect day to climb Golden Cap, the highest point on England’s south coast.
I began my walk in a charming little seaside village nestled between dramatic cliffs. It’s the kind of place that instantly slows your pace, with its relaxed feel and stunning setting.

Before heading uphill, I wandered along the beach for a while, soaking in the sound of the sea and the gentle scrunch of pebbles beneath my feet, a calming sound so typical of Dorset beaches. The waves lapped rhythmically against the shore as the sun glittered on the water, setting the tone for a day of natural beauty.
After my beach walk I headed up through the village past some gorgeous little cottages and took the coast path, gradually climbing through lush, rolling hills with incredible views unfolding at every turn. From one side, I could see the beach stretching endlessly into the distance, and from the other, green fields and ancient woodlands formed a patchwork that seemed to roll on forever.

As I climbed higher, the views became truly spectacular. Standing atop Golden Cap, I looked out across the Jurassic Coast in both directions—miles of coastline, dramatic cliffs, and the shimmering sea far below. It felt peaceful and timeless, as if the land hadn’t changed much in centuries. I passed a few other walkers, but for the most part, it felt like I had the hills and the views all to myself. The sense of space and quiet was incredibly refreshing.

Eventually, I made my way back down to my starting point, where a welcoming inn was waiting with a well-earned drink and a view that somehow felt even better now that I’d seen it from above. Dorset never disappoints and today’s walk was something truly special.
