Why we love autumn hiking in South West England

Now that we’re over half way through September, autumn is really making itself felt. And we love it! The light is changing and nature is starting to gently wind down for winter. Here’s what we’re looking forward to most this autumn:

🍂 Morning mists & dew: Morning mists rising from the cooling earth to settle over rivers, lakes and countryside.

🍂 Low sun and crisp days: Walking out into crisp dawns with glorious sunrises, then watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon before heading into the welcome warmth of a cosy country inn.

🍂 Autumn leaves: Tree canopies changing from lush summer greens to the golden-coppery tones of autumn.

🍂 Smell of woodsmoke: The comforting scent of hearth fires drifting across the landscape from country cottage chimneys.

🍂 Cosy fireside evenings: Settling into a comfy chair by a log crackling log fire after a day out in countryside.

As you can probably tell, we love autumn here at Foot Trails. It’s the perfect season for hiking and we can’t wait for our guests to discover the joy of an English country autumn too.
