Back in May, Alastair, Becky and myself (Emma) were Cotswolds-bound to check one of our Cotswolds walks. The weather was warm and dry, and the sky was overcast, adding a great backdrop to the lush green countryside. We started in a quiet Cotswolds village, walking down a quiet lane flanked by stone cottages and magnificent horse chestnut trees in full blossom.

This walk is called In the Meadow, and it certainly lived up to its name, our trail guide taking us out into fields and meadows full of wild flowers, the white seed heads of dandelions interspersed with bright gold buttercups. The warm spring weather had also brought forth masses of cow parsley and elderflower blossoms, their frothy white flowers contrasting sharply with the green grasses and leaves. With the hawthorn and horse chestnut trees also in full bloom, green and white were definitely the defining colours of this walk!

We stopped briefly at a classic Cotswolds market town to pick up supplies for the walk (coffee and some very tasty flapjacks), and made our way back out into open countryside. It was glorious to be out in such peaceful surroundings, buzzards and red kites wheeling overhead, and the land stretching out ahead of us. We occasionally passed through a sleepy Cotswold village, our route taking us on quiet roads with hardly a soul in sight (except for some welcome encounters with Foot Trails guests, who were also out enjoying their countryside walks off the beaten path). As we arrived in our destination village, we stopped at the local cafe to grab a cup of tea and some pastries, and then rested on a bench in the village square, to soak up some of the Cotswolds magic before heading back to Foot Trails HQ
