A few weeks ago, while I was out hiking at the end of August, I couldn’t resist the glut of blackberries on the hedgerows lining my route. So I hastily repurposed my sandwich container and filled it to the brim with the tasty berries. Having eaten my fill while hiking, I still had quite a lot left over. Not entirely sure what I was going to do with them, I popped them in the freezer until inspiration hit.
Now that we’re edging towards the end of September, with the mornings and evenings getting noticeably cooler and darker, it seems to be the perfect time for comfort food. And what’s more comforting and autumnal than apple and blackberry crumble.
Following a simple recipe, I mixed everything together and popped it in the oven. The warm cinnamon and sugar scents slowly filled the kitchen, making for an even cosier autumn atmosphere. Once it had cooled, I scooped some into a bowl and enjoyed it with a refreshing mug of tea. Pure autumn on a plate ! Luckily there was enough left over for the Foot Trails team meeting the next day.
